The Brentwood Christian School Lady Bellas have built a reputation both on campus and in the Austin-area dance and drill team industry to expect and produce excellence.
They lived up to that reputation on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Waco, winning the TAPPS Dance Championship for the second straight season. The victory, which happened in Tier 2, a higher classification bump that aligned with all of BCS' sports moving to TAPPS 5A, clinched the school's sixth-ever state championship and also the second in the history of the Lady Bellas.
It was domination across the board for the team, which scored superior ratings early in the competition from the duet of junior Emma Kent and sophomore Peyton Tucker and trio of sophomore Ava Cavada and freshmen Kaliana Cardenas and Hollis Leeward.
Brentwood then came out on top in the team lyrical and jazz performances, outpacing 11 other schools in Tier 2 to earn the victory.
The triumph was special across the board for Lady Bellas director Lisa Warner, who in addition to adding her second-straight championship ring, was able to share in the success with former Bella, assistant director, daughter and alumna Taylor Warner, who choreographed both team dances.
Individually, Kent and Leeward were both awarded first-team all state honors. Tucker was second team, and sophomore Amayah Brinkley earned honorable mention.
The program has been hard at work since the summer of 2024 to achieve their goal of repeating as champions, and did so without the help of a single senior. With a supremely talented group losing no one to graduation, the Lady Bellas will enjoy their latest trophy for a short time before getting back in the studio to attempt a three-peat in 2026.
Congratulations to Mrs. Warner and the entire program!
