The Brentwood Christian School track and field team has hit the road for consecutive Thursdays at the Pflugerville Connally and Taylor meets, with the latter producing a slew of strong results as the team kicks off its season.
Running in the JV division due to the varsity division being maxed out, the Bears performed well on both the girls and boys' sides, earning top medals in various divisions and times that would have been top 10 in the varsity division, as well.
For the girls, sophomore Ava Johnson took gold in the 100 and 200 with times that would have been top five in the varsity division. Sophomore Lynden Worley was second in the 200, sophomore Anu Oguntade won long jump with a near school-record distance, while sisters and juniors Hailyn and Harper Counts were both top four in the 1600 and 3200 races with times near their recent numbers.
Senior Afton Harlan was third in discus, Oguntade was third in the 300 hurdles and Worley was third in the high jump.
For the boys, sophomore Trey Campbell (100), senior Hollis Harlan (800 and 1600), and junior Joshua Gonzalez (shot put and discus) all took first in their individual events.
Juniors Matthew Crouch and Jack Hansen were top five in the 200, senior Griffin Smith was second in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, and junior Dylan Sloan was second in the triple jump.
