The Brentwood Christian School varsity boys soccer team finished off their 2024-25 season by leaving a strong legacy of Christ-like sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork.
Despite the numerous challenges of being in the TAPPS 5A this season, the Bears kept their heads up high, ultimately reflecting the shared greatness they feel as part of the program.
The season kicked off with high hopes, as the Bears had many returners from the previous season, including seniors Jack Weston and Gino Burke and juniors Jacob Valladares and Liam McGaughy, as well as a handful of skillful newcomers eager to play.
Two early season victories against Veritas Academy had the team excited for district play, but a tough schedule and heavy travel load proved difficult for the team to overcome in missing the postseason.
A highlight performance of the season was the boys’ district game against Bishop Dunne on Jan. 24. They fought hard and showed determination despite playing against a tough opponent, ultimately losing in a penalty shootout.
According to head coach Cash Miller, the Bears’ motto for the season was, “Win with class, lose with dignity,” which was on full display against Dunne and throughout the season.
This season saw outstanding performances from all players, including the three seniors, Weston, Burke and Gavin McBride, who will be missed.
“Listen to coach Cash and take the upperclassmen's advice and you'll do good,” Burke said about advice for the returners. “Also, put in the hours on your own time, that's what separates the good players from the great.”
The team was able to learn many skills and achieve many personal goals this season, including the personal lessons and life skills of navigating being part of a larger group and facing adversity head-on.
“I learned that soccer builds character and it is really important to be with your team and lean on each other,” said freshman Njenga Kinuthia.
