The BCS cheer team began its 2024-25 season with a new coaching staff that showed lots of growth from the previous season.
“We grew closer as a team and really improved our skills and strengthened our bond,” said sophomore Liora Naidu.
This season, the cheer team welcomed Kris Worley as a new Varsity head coach. Worley coached the middle school cheer team, but after the previous coach Julie Ann Harper left, Worley took on the job.
The cheer team has shown spirit from the field to the court and the energy they bring positively impacts the sporting environments.
One of the biggest parts of the cheer season is homecoming week and the cheer team did not disappoint with their performance at the pep rally and through hyping up the crowd during the game. The cheer team has shown lots of growth, due to their diligence and dedication.
The squad competed in the TAPPS 5A cheer competition on Dec. 9 in Belton. Despite the results, they left the competition with senior Katy Stromberg and junior Claire Morris winning first team all state; freshman Margaret Banks getting second team all state, and Naidu receiving honorable mention.
To raise money for all the events, the cheerleaders hold an annual Little Bear Cheer Camp. This is an amazing experience for elementary aged girls to learn cheers, stunts, and tumbling all while having fun.
The Cheer team will unfortunately lose five seniors: Jenna Fleming, Afton Harlon, Ally Landry, Maeryn McCormick, and Stromberg. The girls have shown leadership and served as an example to the underclassmen on the team.
“I will miss the energy the seniors bring to the team, they have shown us so much kindness, and I have so many good memories with them,” said sophomore Ellie Walters.
The the seniors feel the same way,
“I’m so grateful to have been apart of such a loving team, I’m going to miss all the moments I got to spend them,” said senior Jenna Fleming.
Next year the team has hopes of improving in the competition and they want to continue looking for ways to bring joy to the Brentwood community.
“If you like to support your friends, have lots of school spirit, and are willing to learn routines, cheering is for you,” said Worley.
