The Brentwood Christian School girls soccer team had its run come to a close at the end of the 2024-25 regular season. Despite not achieving the outcome they wanted, the team still found ways to flourish in positivity and teamwork.

A large number of graduates in 2024 led to this season presenting various challenges; namely, the integration of younger talent filling in at every level of the field. Struggles were present, but the group believes progress was evident from start to finish.

“Having a lot of new players made it challenging to learn how to play as a team, but we improved so much from the beginning of the season, even on an individual basis,” said senior Mia Robertson.
Weather and cancellations knocked the team out of some early-season non-district matchups, but a pair of ties versus Veritas Academy had the team excited for district play.

With perennial powerhouses Brook Hill, Regents and Tyler Grace Community all part of the district, the program knew it would be tough.

“My goal for the team this year was not in wins or losses, or goals scored, but was to get one percent better each day,” said head coach Emma Hinson.

A lingering injury to senior Eden Peterson was a setback the team dealt with throughout district play, but the team was proud of its consistent effort and improvement in the face of adversity.

The district season finished with a 1-6 record, but a highlight was the lone victory, which featured a late-game goal from sophomore Ellie Walters to defeat Cristo Rey.

Considering the jump in competition to TAPPS 5A, the Lady Bears exited the season optimistic about their growth. Although many games had a close score, a struggle for the team was playing against girls with more experience and keeping up with fast-paced gameplay.

The squad will undoubtedly miss the contributions of its four seniors: Robertson, Peterson, Maeryn McCormick, and Charis McGaughy.

“The seniors meant a lot to me,” said sophomore Henley Magee. “I was a new member of the team and they made me feel so confident and welcomed.”

Hinson noted the team will miss their leadership and dedication moving forward, and hopes her returning athletes will push harder to plug gaps which include game awareness and team defending.
