Led by sisters and juniors, Harper and Hailyn Counts, and a strong overall performance from the rest of the varsity squad, the Brentwood Christian School girls cross country team took first as a team at the TAPPS 2-5A meet on Saturday, Oct. 19.

With home course advantage as the hosts of the event, the Lady Bears took five of the first nine places, led by Harper Counts, who won the meet with a time of 12:14. Hailyn Counts was second, coming in at 13:09.

Grace Community School followed with places three through six, making it paramount for the Lady Bears to be the next runners across the checkered flag. Sophomore Lynden Worley, sophomore Madi Clark and senior Charis McGaughey answered the call, taking seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, to help the team hold off Grace by three points and win the meet.

TAPPS awards all-district status to the top 10 runners at the district meet, which included all five of the Lady Bears' top runners.

With district in the rearview, the team will now prepare for the TAPPS state meet, set for Monday, Oct. 28 in Waco.
