The Brentwood Christian girls cross country team finished seventh at state on Monday, Oct. 28, led by junior Harper Counts' first-place individual finish and TAPPS 5A state championship.
Counts finished in 11:57, narrowly holding off her opponent from Regents School of Austin, senior Amelia Weenig, who came in at 12:01.
The race capped off a banner season for Counts, who also won the TAPPS 2-5A district meet and the Savio Invitational to start the season. Her mark helped set the stage for BCS to nab seventh out of 25 schools in attendance.
Junior Hailyn Counts had an excellent showing as well; her time of 13:28 was good for 14th. Both Counts sisters finished top 15, qualifying them for academic all-state honors, while Harper's top 10 finish puts her in the all-state overall category, as well.
Sophomore Lynden Worley finished 66th for the Lady Bears, who rounded out their top five with sophomore Madi Clark (76th) and freshman Scarlet Harlan (92nd).
It was an excellent season for the program, which will return every runner from this year's group except seniors Charis McGaughy and Afton Harlan.
