TRIO OF BEARS HONORED FOR BASKETBALL MILESTONES

Trio of Bears Honored for Basketball Milestones

The Brentwood Christian School boys basketball team has turned a corner since head coach Dustin Karrer arrived in 2021, winning 20-plus games each of the last three seasons and positioning itself for a strong season in 2024-25.

Individually, the Bears have had numerous milestones during Karrer's tenure, and the team honored seniors Blake Petty, Coleston Allen and junior Bryant Herring after Friday night's 74-41 victory over San Marcos Homeschool for several standout accomplishments.

Petty, a three-year starter for the Bears, notched his 1,000 career point in the Bears' first tournament of the season in Laredo. A first-team all district and all state selection last year, Petty has been a key cog in the team's rise to prominence on the local basketball scene as a two-way presence as a shot maker and defender.

Allen, who was honored for hitting the 500-point mark, is a four-year varsity letterman for BCS. He has been on a tear to begin his senior year; he notched a game-winning 3-pointer at the Laredo St. Augustine tournament in the team's first game and was averaging close to 12 points per game heading into Friday.

Herring is new to the program and BCS this season, but has already made his mark in a short amount of time. Now a 500-point scorer as a junior, Herring will no-doubt use his above-the-rim ability and two years of eligibility to push toward Petty's mark of 1,000 career points.

The Bears will aim to build on Friday's victory when they travel to Austin-area rival St. Michael's Prep on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Both programs were ranked inside the Austin American Statesman's top 10 area teams heading into the season and both teams are coming off of TAPPS state tournament appearances last season.
