The Brentwood Christian varsity girls basketball team added nine newcomers to this year’s roster, hitting the 12-player mark for the 2024-25 season.

The team's motto this year comes from Romans 8:38-39, which showcases that ¨God is greater than the highs and lows.”

“By coaching you get to see someone’s faith and development not just as a basketball player, but in life,” said head coach Julie Walker.

The team is looking forward to adopting the motto into their daily lives.

“To me personally it means that even through wins and losses, we will still have to act as Christian people…on and off the court,” said sophomore Ella Kennedy.

The team captains for the varsity girls team are Kennedy and senior Zaniah Williams; both have been playing basketball for their entire high school career. Williams is a three-year starters for the Lady Bears and averaged close to 10 points per game as a junior, earning second-team all-district honors.

Sophomore Anu Oguntade is the team’s other returner; newcomers include sophomore Ella Crouch, junior Rachel Walker and seven freshmen.

While the team is preparing for tough competition in the form of new district rivals Hyde Park, Tyler Grace Community and Brook Hill, the girls have already won against Austin LBJ and picked up a forfeit victory on Nov. 15.

The program will host its annual CenTex Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 5 through Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Athletic Center on campus and has several key games coming up including Veritas Academy (Dec. 13), New Braunfels Christian Academy (Dec. 28) and Marble Falls Faith Academy (Dec. 30).

Through development in practices, games and team bonding activities, the girls on the team look to live out their motto while showing improvement this season.
