The Varsity boys soccer team kicked off their season with a team consisting of three seniors, 11 juniors, five sophomores, and three freshmen who have extraordinary skills and Christ-like behaviors on and off the field.
Fresh off a district championship and area-round playoff victory last year, the program will be challenged early and often in district play this year, as Brentwood Christian moves up to TAPPS 5A across all team sports.
“I am looking forward to better competition," said Cash Miller, long-time BCS boys soccer head coach. "Playing better teams makes you better...we want to play the best so we can measure ourselves and work to improve"
Expectations are high with the 14-0 record and shutout streak set during last year's district season. The first two games are positive signs toward a similar resolution this year, as the team picked up a victory against Veritas Academy, 2-1, on Dec. 12 in their first game and lost a 1-0 tight match vs. Regents School of Austin in a mixed JV and varsity game on Dec. 14.
In the victory on Dec. 12, juniors Liam McGaughy and Jacob Valladares each put in header goals for the Bears, the ladder coming with under two minutes of clock left to seal the victory.
There are many returning players who are ready for the challenges ahead.
“My favorite part about playing soccer at Brentwood is how well the team gets along and how much effort they put into the sport and friendships with each other,” said senior and returner, Gino Burke.
The Brentwood community is looking forward to an amazing season and ready to support their Bears.
