The Brentwood Christian School swimming team had its most successful meet yet as a program this week in San Antonio at the TAPPS Regional Meet.

With a robust group of boys and girls swimmers, BCS finished first in the TAPPS Division II boys division and third in the girls, qualifying a number of individual swimmers and relays to the state level.

As has been the case with all Brentwood Christian programs this year, the swim team moved up to the Division II level (otherwise known as 5A) after competing as Division III (4A and below in swim) last year. At the regional meet, the top three swimmers in each event and relay automatically advance to state. Once all the meets are complete, the next fastest 7 from the combined regional results are called up for a final total of 16 in each event.

After Monday's races were finalized, BCS was guaranteed a number of automatic individual qualifiers, including:

Senior Jennifer Montier: 100 yard butterfly (first), 100 Yard Backstroke (first)
Freshman Ali Nelson-Cook: 500 Yard Freestyle (first), 200 Yard Freestyle (second)
Junior Gavin Edmondson: 100 Yard Butterfly (first)
Freshman Chayce Lee: 200 Yard Individual Medley (second), 100 Yard Breaststroke (second)
Senior Gus Ebner: 50 Yard Freestyle (third), 100 Yard Freestyle (third)
Senior Reid Alexander: 500 Yard Freestyle (third)
Senior Jackson Berger: 50 Yard Freestyle (second)
Sophomore Evan Berger: 100 Yard Butterfly (second)

Additionally, BCS had five relays qualify for state for the first time. They were:

Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay: Alexander, Lee, Edmondson, Ebner (second)
Girls 200 Yard Freestye Relay: Montier, sophomore Zoe Ruiz, Nelson-Cook, sophomore Gracyn Mayle (second)
Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay: Lee, Jackson Berger, Ebner, Evan Berger (first)
Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Nelson-Cook, Montier, Ruiz, Mayle (third)
Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Alexander, Jackson Berger, Evan Berger, Edmondson (third)

The Bears are still waiting final results from all regions to determine if any additional team members who finished in the fourth through seventh range might be possible additions to the state meet.

The TAPPS state meet is scheduled for Feb. 11 back in a familiar position and pool for BCS at the NEISD Natatorium in San Antonio.
