The Brentwood Christian School boys basketball team has several things on its mind heading into the annual TAPPS 2-5A district tournament. The big one: a back-to-back district championship.

The Bears will have the opportunity, with wins Friday and Saturday in the district tournament, to clinch a second straight district championship under head coach Dustin Karrer and a talented group of upperclassmen.

After going 6-0 through the first round of district play, the Bears earned the top seed in the tournament and a bye through the round one games on Tuesday night. Their first matchup will come on Friday at 4 p.m. at Waco Live Oak Classical School versus the winner of Tyler Grace Community and Brighter Horizons Academy.

A victory in that contest would prime the Bears to face the winner of Bishop Dunne and Brook Hill with playoff seeding and district championship bragging rights on the line.

The Bears continue to be led in scoring by the trio of juniors Marcus Zelee (16.2) and Bryant Herring (12.2) and senior Blake Petty (10.6).

The program is 24-8 on the season with two games remaining prior to the TAPPS postseason commencing.
