Brentwood Christian School's football team is one of the newer programs in the Austin area, its inception only a short decade ago. The journey from six-man football to its current status as an 11-man program in TAPPS 5A continues to bring pride to the athletic program and the school.
A measure of that pride and success could be found Wednesday when senior Victor Koncaba, a four-year starter for the Bears and a long-time BCS student, signed his National Letter of Intent for football to join the Angelo State University Rams.
Koncaba was surrounded by his family, coaches and friends in the CSA building as he made his commitment to the Rams official, a culmination of one of the most impressive individual careers in the history of the Bears' football program.
One of the most feared lineman in TAPPS Division II (5A), Koncaba anchored both the offensive and defensive lines for the Bears, a welcome sight for head coach Kyle Maxfield and staff, who joined BCS prior to Koncaba's junior season.
In one of the rarer occurrences at the high school level, Koncaba was named the Offensive MVP of the district by opposing coaches. His dominance on the offensive line was a key scouting report feature for every team in TAPPS Division II District 2, earning an honor usually reserved for offensive skill players.
Listed at six-foot-three, 315 pounds, Koncaba will look to carve out a role for himself at the NCAA Division II level, where Angelo State competes in the Lone Star Conference.
