The Brentwood Christian School boys basketball team is playoff bound with a No. 1 seed in hand and back-to-back district championships for the first time in program history.
The Bears (26-8, 8-0 in TAPPS 2-5A) took down Bishop Dunne, 62-53, Saturday in the district tournament final to clinch the top spot amongst partner schools and secure a home playoff game in the process.
BCS found itself down early, 6-4, after a strong early performance by the Falcons' defense. But junior guard Marcus Zelee and the size of senior Blake Petty and junior Bryant Herring was too much for Dunne, who cut it to seven points with just over a minute to play in the fourth, but could not close the gap any further.
The Bears took down Tyler Grace Community, 70-43, Friday night to earn a spot in the championship game. The Falcons defeated Brook Hill in a tight contest.
Brentwood continues to yield success under fourth-year head coach Dustin Karrer, who led the team to a fourth consecutive season of 20-plus wins. The squad will be focused on getting to 30 this year, with four wins separating them from the elusive state championship they have been seeking since getting a taste in last year's state semifinal loss to eventual 4A champion Houston St. Thomas.
The victory sets up BCS to host the No. 4 seed from TAPPS 1-5A at a time and date to be determined in the area round of the playoffs. Check back to the athletic website and social media for updates on the official announcement of what's next for the Bears.
